The term miscarriage refers to the loss of a developing pregnancy up until the twentieth week of gestation. When a pregancy loss occurs after the twentieth week, the loss is referred to as a stillbirth. Most miscarriages occur during the first 13 weeks of a pregnancy.
Current statistics are fairly consistant in documenting that approximately 1 in 5 (20%) pregnancies will end in miscarriage. Of the number of women who miscarry, 20% will suffer recurring miscarriages (www.allaboutlifechallenges.org).
An Ectopic Pregnancy is one in which the fertilized ovum is implanted in any tissue other than the uterine wall. Most ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tube (aka - tubal pregnancies), but implantation can also occur in the cervix, ovaries, and abdome. (Wikipedia)
